We were hoping for a luxurious and elegant stay at a 4-star hotel. Unfortunately, it felt much less premium because of: - The loud pool that you could hear from the room on the 9th floor - A disruptive incident around 1 am when we were ready to get some rest. Lots of people running down the hallway followed by an intercom announcement. Very concerning - Being overcharged at the minibar. Only had one item but was charged for 2 - The room itself wasn't dark enough; there were bright led lights shining from the AC control panel and no good way to block out the light The only thing we did like was the bed itself which was comfortable to lie in, as well as the downstairs bar which had good drinks, fine service and a nice ambiance.

This is a nice hotel with a good location if you want to be in the middle of the Gaslamp district, close to the ball park, convention center and other San Diego attractions. ( 15 minute Uber to the Zoo or Balboa Park). The people who work there are friendly and efficient. Our standard room was small, not alot of space to spread suitcases or really do anything in the room. The shower is a glass enclosure basically in the room, which does have a curtain you can pull around it, but it takes up a lot of floor space. There was a significant amount of street noise on the weekend night we were there (we stayed on the 3rd floor), but not so much on the weeknight. the mattress was fine for sleeping, but we were awakened BOTH nights after midnight by a loud announcement, in our room and presumabley all rooms, that "The emergency has been investigated and is all clear. You may return to your rooms". We never heard any alarm telling us to leave the room.

The good: The Pendry is in the perfect location in the Gaslamp District of San Diego. It is ideal for baseball fans who want to catch a game at Petco and for those who want to hit the Gaslamp hotspots with a very short walk back to your hotel. The bad: Make sure you check your credit card bill after your visit. I was charged $250 for stealing a JBL speaker that was not even in the room when I arrived. They assumed I took it and billed my credit card for it. I had to call them to ask why I was charged $250. They said it was because I took the JBL speaker. I said there was no JBL speaker in my room. They double checked and realized they were in error. They are in the process of refunding my credit card. They also charged me additional room taxes after my visit, even though I was told at check-in that I had paid in full at the time of check-in. Do not check out by the text message they will send you the morning you are checking out. They will not send you an invoice and you are risking being charged for fees that are questionable at best and fraudulent at worst. I have stayed at the Pendry SD several times and at the Pendry Baltimore as well. I will no longer stay at Pendry Hotels because of their lack of transparency when it comes to fees and for their hastiness in charging a customer's credit card for fees that are unwarranted, and without any notification.

Check in was abhorrent. Front desk's "Roman" lied about the requirement of a physical driver's license as a "law." He would not use the digital license that 17 states (as of this moment) use. He later changed his stance to a policy when confronted. Retrain and educate him. He was smug.

This hotel is in a great location. The spa facility is very small but the service and my our treatments were excellent. The hotel rooftop pool is a social scene and we were just up there dining, so the service on Saturday was a little meh because of all of the bachelor / bachelorette parties. We were in town to attend a wedding and thought our room was great. I would have liked to have been able to have a shower head that you can remove because I didn't want to mess up my hair while rinsing off before getting ready.

Hands down our favorite hotel in San Diego! From the courteous and professional valet service to the quick and seamless check-in, everything was top-notch. A special shoutout to the amazing pool bar and dining team—they were incredibly kind, attentive, and always greeted us with a smile and a great cocktail. Their service truly elevated our stay and made the entire experience exceptional. Highly recommend the restaurant Lionfish which offers a very nice selection of quality sushi food. Perfect for those that love sushi, and those that want a little something else.
